Anne Jacqueline Hathaway (born November 12, 1982) is an American film, television, and stage actress. She is one of the most high-profile and popular celebrities of Hollywood, and is the recipient of an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a BAFTA Award. In 2007 People magazine featured her in their listing of the 50 most beautiful people in the world.[1]
Hathaway was the first teenager admitted into The Barrow Group's acting program, following which she appeared in the 1999 television series Get Real. In 2001, she starred as Mia Thermopolis in Disney's highly-successful comedy film The Princess Diaries, and later reprised the role for its 2004 sequel. Hathaway ventured into playing dramatic roles with the independent film Havoc and the gay romance Brokeback Mountain (both 2005). She achieved wider fame for her leading role in the 2006 box office hit The Devil Wears Prada.
Hathaway received critical acclaim and an Academy Award for Best Actress nomination for her performance in the 2008 drama Rachel Getting Married. She followed it with three commercially successful films in 2010—Valentine's Day, Alice in Wonderland, and Love & Other Drugs. That year, she also won an Emmy Award for her voice-over performance on the television series The Simpsons. In 2012, Hathaway achieved further success for portraying Selina Kyle in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises and Fantine in Tom Hooper's Les Misérables; the latter won her several awards, including the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
